Tour Description: Discover the life and history of the first settlers as you stroll through a maze of narrow lanes and old buildings of Old Montréal. Learn of the city’s early fortifications, the seigniorial system, and religious institutions inherited from the French and English Regimes. As you walk on the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, you will see City Hall, the historic and new Courthouses and Jacques Cartier Square, an area of café-terraces, old world charm and Joie de vivre! Then, see the first financial district, known as Montreal's Wall Street and its many Victorian buildings such as the Bank of Montreal and the Royal Bank. Old Montréal has always been a beautiful part of the city, but in the last few years, new construction and renovations have only added to its charm. See La Caisse de Dépôt, La Place Jean Paul Riopelle, a piece of the Berlin Wall in our World Trade Center. We will also take you for a visit into the majestic Notre-Dame Basillica, an outstanding example of neo-gothic architecture. Old Montréal is now home to many cosy little “restaurants de quartier,” boutique hotels and designer boutiques. You will see that Old Montréal is also a “new” hip place to be!
