Howard Hughes Award

This award is given in recognition of an outstanding improvement in fundamental helicopter technology brought to fruition during the preceding calendar year by a person or persons. The Award is intended to foster accomplishments in the basic disciplines of the industry. It consists of a large silver bowl engraved with the recipient's name and accomplishment, and an individual medal for each winner. The award was established in 1977 by Hughes Helicopters to honor the memory of Howard Hughes and his pioneering accomplishments in aviation.
