The AHS International Student Design Competition challenges students to design a vertical lift aircraft that meets specified requirements, providing a practical exercise for engineering students at accredited colleges and universities around the world. The competition promotes student interest in vertical flight technology. A total of $5,500 in prizes will be awarded for the best designs.
The Request for Proposals for the 31st Annual AHS International Student Design Competition, sponsored by AgustaWestland (AW) in collaboration with Advanced Rotorcraft Technology(ART). The 2014 Student Design Competition challenges students to design an experimental Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft – an X-VTOL – which is intended to establish key performance attributes to enable transformational mission capabilities on an objective aircraft. These include efficient sustained hover, long-range cruise, high useful loads and sustained flight at high speeds.
Students in academic institutions all over the world now have the opportunity to submit their ideas to AHS International for an advanced X-VTOL platform meeting the DARPA VTOL X-Plane Program objectives. All entries will be shared with DARPA for informational purposes.
See www.vtol.org/sdc for the full 2014 RFP, as well as for past RFPs and winning entries.
Note: the winners of the 2013 Student Design Competition will be announced on or about August 16, 2013.
