Calendar 2013 Year at a Glance Photo.jpgHughes Model 205
Photo date: March 1950

Shown here is an artist’s drawing of the 70-seater Hughes Model 205 helicopter project from 1950. It was planned as a civilian counterpart of the huge experimental Kellett/Hughes XH-17 crane helicopter, which had been in development since 1946 for the U.S. Army Air Forces (and had not yet flown).

Dependent on the outcome of the XH-17 flight trials, the ambitious Model 205 was probably abandoned together with the XH-17, which had achieved very limited success – having flown about 12 hours only by the end of the program in 1955.
