The Transformative Vertical Flight 2024 meeting will take place Feb. 6–8, 2024 in Santa Clara, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley and will feature more than 100 speakers on important progress on vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft and technology. The 6th Decennial VFS Aeromechanics Specialists' Conference will mark the 50th Anniversary of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter’s first decennial forum on emerging aeromechanics challenges and solution methods for future vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. Aeromechanics encompasses the technical disciplines of dynamics, aero-dynamics, acoustics, and flight mechanics, all of which are strong drivers in the vehicle design process.
This meeting will feature technical sessions covering the sub-disciplines of aeromechanics, in addition to special technical and plenary sessions commemorating 50 years of technical mgmeeetings and conferences hosted by the VFS San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (SFBAC). In addition, the local chapter is excited to announce the inaugural SFBAC Best Technical Paper Award, which will be presented to the author(s) of the paper that best demonstrates technical excellence from among those published at the conference. Papers have been invited in all areas related to rotorcraft/VTOL aeromechanics, including both crewed and uncrewed aircraft, using either conventional and/or electrified propulsion systems.
The 11th Annual Electric VTOL Symposium includes invited presentations from leaders in this exciting field. This event is an excellent opportunity to learn about and discuss the latest advancements in eVTOL, and the challenges that still remain. Invited presentations from all areas of eVTOL will be discussed, from researchers and leaders in academia, industry and government agencies from around the globe. The Vertical Flight Society has been leading efforts in electric VTOL since 2014 and has a dedicated website on Electric VTOL News.
The Short Course on Electric VTOL Design will take place in-person on Monday, Feb. 5. Taught by Dr. James Wang, this annual 1-day short course is always a big hit!

The abstract submission phase has now closed and authors have been notified. Download the Call for Papers.
- Final papers are due January 16, 2024. Authors are responsible for any necessary clearances and approvals.
- Download the final paper template (Word).
- Authors will be notified of how/where to upload their final papers.
- Final papers will be digitially published in the meeting proceedings.
- The meeting is an open forum therefore all presentations and papers should be unclassified and unrestricted.
