Palm Beach County Convention Center, Room 1B&C
Cost: US$400.00 pp / $100 VFS student members
Download the course description
The Vertical Flight Society’s signature eVTOL class provides in-depth coverage of industry-standard battery systems development (BAE Systems), advanced high-power hybrid-electric hardware (LaunchPoint), PEM fuel cells and hydrogen propulsion and as always, the fundamentals of Vertical Lift and rotor aeromechanics from design to state-of-the-art in acoustics (Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center, University of Maryland).
Organized by the VFS eVTOL Technical Committee, this multi-presenter course will provide an overview of the unique challenges and opportunities of this new class of vehicles. Both electric and hybrid-electric passenger carrying vertical flight aircraft will be covered for a variety of missions ranging from personal/private use to urban air taxis to regional electric VTOL bizjets.

This year’s Vertical Flight Society 1-Day short course, Introduction to AI for Engineers, is designed to provide hands-on training on building AI networks in the shortest amount of time possible. Additionally, it provides a high-level overview of key terminology and abundant code examples intended to be a stepping stone to further personal development after the course.
Beginning with an overview of Python programming, the course is centered around using TensorFlow and Keras libraries to maximize capability while simplifying for greater understanding. Common terminology, creating building blocks for the models, and the importance of these blocks in building a successful model is then discussed with plenty of code examples to reference. Finally, the course ends with a discussion as to how to collect training data and includes some environments to train and test your model before deploying it in the real world.
The course will be presented by Tim Schmidt and Alex Trainer of Sikorsky, A Lockheed Martin Company.
