Robert Niemiec
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Robert Niemiec is a Ph. D candidate at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute, under the guidance of Dr. Farhan Gandhi. He received his B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from RPI in May 2014. Robert joined Dr. Gandhi's RAMS lab in the spring of 2013, as a junior. He has since worked on the design of a reversible airfoil for use in stopped rotor helicopters.
Robert's research focuses on the aeromechanics of multirotor helicopters, including control and trim analysis, and dynamic characteristics. Specifically, he has applied advanced rotorcraft theories, including finite-state dynamic inflow and rotor blade elasticity to small, unmanned multicopters. In pursuit of his doctorate, Robert has published several papers and made many presentations at conferences. He is currently a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellow, having been awarded the fellowship in 2015. Robert expects to complete his Ph. D in August 2018.
