William Staruk

University of Maryland College Park

Will Staruk is a doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center, studying under Dr. Inderjit Chopra. He graduated with a B.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2010, and then began pursuing his graduate studies at University of Maryland. Previously, he served as the project manager for Maryland's Gamera Human Powered Helicopter Team before delving into his own research into 3-D computational structural dynamics. Will was also a recipient of the NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program graduate fellowship.

What are some of your current projects or research interests?

To date, Will has developed a next-generation toolset for 3-D structural modeling of helicopter rotors. He has validated the X3D aeromechanics analysis solver using the NASA TRAM rotor, and provided 3-D rotor modeling toolset and documentation to US Army, NASA, and industry collaborators.

Will introduced the Gamera Human-Powered Helicopter project to the Arlington Composite Squadron in October 2012.
