Gabrielle Schumacher

University of Maryland

Gabrielle Schumacher is a junior studying aerospace engineering at the University of Maryland. Gabrielle currently holds a position at the Composite Research Laboratory (CORE) located on campus, where she has worked for the past 2 years. In the lab she conducts research involving hollow glass microsphere reinforced composites, with the goal to increase safety in flight vehicles such as helicopters. She studies specifically the effects of varying the volume fraction of microspheres, matrix materials, and sphere types. All to create a foam that can absorb the most energy during a collision or crash. This research will hopefully lead to increased safety, and impact affordability in the aerospace industry.
