Christopher Axten
The Pennsylvania State University
Christopher Axten is a Ph.D. student studying Aerospace Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, where he is working with Dr. Mark Maughmer. His doctoral work focuses on using transitional computational fluid dynamics for aircraft design, such as demonstrating the potential of slotted, natural-laminar-flow airfoils (SNLF) on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. He seeks to use this knowledge and background to contribute to creating future high-efficiency aircraft through designing for laminar flow. He also supports hands-on aeronautical engineering projects at Penn State, such as the AIAA Design-Build-Fly (DBF) team and a human-powered airplane project, and hopes to support hands-on engineering education projects after graduating. In addition, he has completed internships with Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), General Atomics: Aeronautical Systems, The Boeing Company, and the Army Aviation Development Directorate.
