Alexander Heintz is a second year PhD student at the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Göttingen. Alexander received his M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from the Technical University of Braunschweig with a focus on aerodynamics and turbulence. Currently, he is working in the Helicopter Department under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Markus Raffel on the project "Vortex Decay on a Rotating System" funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The aim of his research is to experimentally investigate the influence of secondary vortices on the vortex decay of helicopters in hover. The comparison between the new experimental data and the numerical simulations should help to determine how accurate the simulations of secondary vortices are, and ultimately contribute to the further improvement of current helicopter design tools.
