Makayla Galler

Arizona State University

Makayla Galler is a leader and innovator in aviation, with accomplishments in both manned and unmanned flight. She is committed to advancing the aviation industry while inspiring the next generation of aviators and innovators. Makayla is a student at Arizona State University majoring in Aeronautical Management Technology with a focus in Unmanned Aerial Systems and a minor in Human Systems Engineering. She holds her Private Pilot Certificate with a glider rating, her Airplane Single Engine Land rating, and a Part 107 drone license. She is active in Navy ROTC and is training for a future career as a naval aviator. Makayla conducts research in Advanced Air Mobility and serves on the Youth Council for the Advanced Air Mobility Institute, helping shape the future of flight and human-centered design. She is currently part of a university research team studying pilot workload and interface design for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The project explores how flight deck layout, automation levels, and airspace integration affect situational awareness and safety in complex urban environments. Her work focuses on applying human systems engineering principles to reduce cognitive load and improve operator trust in emerging VTOL technologies. Makayla's dedication to aviation also extends to public advocacy. As an Aviation Advocate for the Colorado Pilots Association, she has met with government officials, including the Attorney General, and addressed the House on aviation legislation to support general aviation and future pilots. She has spoken at community meetings about aviation’s role in local economies. As the MAKAYLA GALLER Education and Scholarship Chair, she managed scholarships and led programs to expand access to aviation careers. She also served as the Outreach Board Member for the Women in Aviation Mile High Chapter before starting college. She is the founder of Pilot Prodigies, a volunteer group of pilots, drone pilots, and engineering students from her high school and college network. Together, they visit schools to actively engage students through workshops, drone demonstrations, mentorship, and shared resources. Through this initiative, Makayla empowers students to explore aviation and advocate for their futures. "If an ordinary kid like me can achieve extraordinary things, so can they."
