Gray Simmons

Georgia Institute of Technology

Gray Simmons is a second-year M.S. student from Macon, Georgia, studying aerospace engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also completed his B.S. in aerospace engineering at Georgia Tech and plans to pursue his PhD there as well. Under the direction of Prof. Cristina Riso, he is working within the Vertical Lift Research Center of Excellence (VLRCOE) task 8 on whirl flutter and stability analysis. His work involves developing nonlinear output-based approaches to accurately predict whirl flutter instabilities for advanced VTOL configurations. Along with analyzing the effectiveness of these methods on computational models, this work led him to complete an internship in the summer of 2024 at the Langley Air Force Base, where he has applied these techniques on the TiltRotor Aeroelastic Stability Testbed (TRAST)."
