eVTOL / UAM Electronics and Electrical Architecture Workshop at SAE WCX

Due to concerns around the rapidly evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, SAE International has made the difficult decision to cancel the WCX 2020 World Congress Experience, originally scheduled for April 21-23, in Detroit. Before making this decision, we extensively monitored and evaluated health guidance from international health authorities, government- and corporate-imposed travel restrictions, and the recently declared State of Emergency issued by the State of Michigan.

eVTOL / UAM Electronics and Electrical Architecture Workshop at SAE WCX

1st Annual Workshop at SAE WCX

Hosted by the Vertical Flight Society and SAE

Tuesday, April 21, 2020  8:00 am – 5:00 pm
TCF Center, Detroit, MI

The Vertical Flight Society is hosting its 1st Workshop on eVTOL / UAM Electronics and Electrical Architecture at the SAE International World Congress Experience (WCX) on April 21, 2020, at TCF Center (formerly Cobo Hall) in Detroit, Michigan. Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles are emerging as a partial solution to traffic congestion by providing affordable air traffic options for intracity travel, and inter-urban location. While Urban Air Mobility (UAM) provides a more comprehensive look at localized air transportation from small drone applications up to regional inter-city transportation.

This one-day meeting is the third in a series of solution-focused workshops — the first workshop in Sept. 2019. In the first workshop, industry representatives and regulators focused on the "defining challenges" of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, identifying key stakeholders and strategies for moving forward.

This 3rd Workshop is dedicated to architecting affordable electronics systems for eVTOL/UAM for the purpose of identifying foundational elements needed to support the development of safe, functional and economically viable infrastructure to support UAM applications.

Background
The Vertical Flight Society, founded in 1943 as the American Helicopter Society, is the world's leading professional organization working to advance vertical flight. VFS has been a leading advocate and supporter of what we call "The Electric VTOL Revolution." We held the world's eVTOL technical meeting in 2014 and our 7th Annual eVTOL Symposium is planned for Jan. 2020 in Silicon Valley; we now have 100+ hours of informative and educational videos on electric VTOL. A summary of the work that VFS and its partners have done, along with information on previous events and activities, can be found on this webpage
