Ring Gear Vibration Suppression via Active Support Struts in a Planetary Gear Transmission
Authors / Details: Peng Guan, Hans DeSmidt, University of TennesseeAbstract
This paper investigates an active vibration suppression method for planetary gear transmission (PGT) driveline system supported by discrete boundary struts. To effectively suppress the vibrations introduced by the parametric excitations, the proposed active vibration control method develops an output feedback controller via applying LQR theory to a reduced-order stationary ring gear model equipped with sensors collocated with boundary struts. Afterward, the output feedback controller is integrated to the PGT driveline system for actuator control to suppress the vibrations transmitted through boundary struts. Assume-modes method, Floquet theorem and harmonic balance method are used to obtain the steady-state response of the system. By including enough sensors and number of modes in the reduced-order ring gear model, the vibrations transmitted through boundary struts can be suppressed. Additionally, the vibrations in other PGT components are examined to ensure that the proposed control method does not introduce exaggerating behavior to those components.
