Soohyeon Lee is a Ph.D. candidate in Aerospace Engineering at the Penn State University. He conducts research at the Vertical Lift Research Center of Excellence (VLRCOE), advised by Dr. Joseph Horn. His research specializes in rotorcraft flight dynamics & control, and handling qualities of eVTOL aircraft, with a specific focus on Direct Force Control (DFC) law development and enhancing ride quality for UAM/AAM applications. As a former Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) F-35 technician and an FAA-certified Airframe/Powerplant mechanic, he integrates practical applications with advanced control theory to provide a comprehensive perspective on vertical flight technologies. In support of his research work on scalable control laws and disturbance rejection properties for sub-scale UAV, he is also an FAA Part 107 UAS pilot.
